Dealing with Harassment

Harassment has always been an issue on sites like Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, and other places of content creation. As you’re getting started as a content creator, harassment can be a scary thought . How do you deal with hate raids, Discord bots, spam, and other kinds of harassment? How do you take beginning steps to keep yourself safe? Thanks to streamers who took time out of their busy schedules, and the community-created tools and on-site safety tools, we’ve crafted this article to help you protect yourself and make these situations a little easier to handle. Twitch Tools AutoMod and Banned Words Twitch allows you to set up tools like AutoMod and a list of banned words. To make use of this, go into the Creator Dashboard, Settings, and then Moderation. From here, you will be able to set up terms that will be blocked from being posted in chat. Meanwhile, AutoMod will halt messages from being posted without approval from a moderator. This way, you have a bit of added security on what’s said in your chat and some time to react before things get out of hand. As for other sites, such as Facebook LIVE and YouTube streams, bots like Nightbot can help provide security with spam filtering, AutoMod features, and chat logs for reporting. One thing to note with regard to banned words is to be careful with personal information. Things like your full name, address, or any other information you don’t want out there might be tempting to put into your banned list, but don’t do it. While this might seem like it’ll keep you safe, it can also unintentionally give people ammunition.  If, for some reason, the name “Ben” is banned in your chat, people might guess that your name is Ben. Likewise, if “Jefferson Street”...
